22 August 2009 One Comment

In almost all Parts of the globe the graceful month of Ramadan has set in (in Pakistan it will commence from 23rd August); the month, during which the gates of Mercy are wide open, the gates of Hell are shut and the Shayateen are chained up. It is a month chosen by Allah (swt) as a month of fasting; an act of Ibadat that Allah (swt) made special to Him. He (swt) favored this month over all other months by making it the month of mercy and reverence for all the believers.

Ramadan kareem 2009Muslims of the world celebrate their holiest month of Ramadan every year. Ramadan is the 9th month in the lunar year. During the Fast (Sawm) of Ramadan, strict restraints take place on the daily live of Muslims, they are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden during fasting. At the end of the day, the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the Iftar . Also, avoiding immoral behavior and anger and showing compassion is part of the requirements of the fasting.

On the evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat-al-Qadr (the Night of Power). It is believed that on this night Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) first received the revelation of the Holy Quran.

Allah (swt) says: “ALIF-LAAM-RAA’. This is a Book we have revealed unto you, O Muhammad, in order that you may lead mankind out of darkness into the light”. [TMQ Ibrahim: 1-2]

So let us make this month of Ramadhan, the month of prayer, the month of worship, the month of recitation of Qur’an, the month of giving Zakah, the month of strengthening the relations between our relatives, the month of generosity and goodness to the needy, the month of being aware of our speech and actions, the month of re-invigorating our Iman and purifying our hearts.
