GHQ Attack Hostages Freed

The brazen attack on one of the most secure areas of the country in the middle of the day, and the taking of hostages, shows a new level of audacity from the militants. It is the third major militant strike in Pakistan in a week and was carried out as the army prepares a major offensive against the militants in their northwestern stronghold of South Waziristan on the Afghan border.

Video confirms death of Baitullah Mehsud

The Taliban in Pakistan have released a video confirming that their former leader Baitullah Mehsud is dead. Mehsud was killed on August 6 in the tribal region of South Waziristan in a missile attack by a suspected US drone.

Public opinion in Pakistan has turned sharply against the Taliban and other Islamist militants but Pakistanis still do not trust the United States and President Barack Obama, according to the results of a poll.

Michael Jackson’s impact on Pakistan

Pakistani fans of Michael Jackson say they are shocked and saddened by the news of his sudden death. Jackson, who was often described as the most popular musician in the world, made his mark here in Pakistan, too.  Michael Jackson’s death led many of Pakistan’s local television channels Friday morning, knocking the near constant coverage of the military campaign against Taliban militants off the top of the news lineup, if only for a few hours. Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest today at 4am.

Khalid KhwajaThe noise of down fall of Musharraf is not silent yet. There has been scandals and news and views keeping him a popular personality for the media. Former Inter-Services Intelligence official Khalid Khwaja has sought a compensation of Rs700m for his alleged kidnapping and illegal confinement in 2007 and registration of “false” cases against him. According to the claimant, nothing incriminating had been proven against him. He said he had been detained on the orders of Musharraf and other former government functionaries were responsible for the misery he had undergone for “crimes which I did not commit”.

After 9/11 and since last few years Pakistan had been on a roller coaster ride of crisis after crisis. We are paying the price of being the ally of US against war on terrorism although being a victim of the same. The terms Al Qaeda, Taliban, militants are now a nightmare for the world but why they all are hiding only in Pakistan? Osama is always searched in Pakistan; Afghan war can’t be conducted without our help than why only we are the sufferers, while we are the victims also?
