The Taliban in Pakistan have released a video confirming that their former leader Baitullah Mehsud is dead. Mehsud was killed on August 6 in the tribal region of South Waziristan in a missile attack by a suspected US drone.

A video received by the BBC shows the body of the former leader of Pakistan's largest Taliban group lying in a room. It is not clear where it was taken.

US and Pakistani officials were quick to claim Mr Mehsud's death, but it took nearly three weeks for the Taliban to admit he had been hurt in the attack and had later died.

Baitullah mehsudIt is not clear why they have decided to release the video of their former leader now. They announced his death and named a successor, Hakimullah Mehsud, in late August.

Come Wednesday, Indians will be cheering for a Pakistan win against Australia in the Group A clash of the Champions Trophy in South Africa, a victory that could also propel India to the semi-finals.

If Pakistan wins at Centurion, arch-rivals India — currently third in their group — may sneak through to the semi-final on points.

Less obvious is how satisfying the concoction was: the naan’s rubbery dough, the crushed but still crisp samosa shell, the spicy potatoes with little bursts of flavor in the form of anardana (dried pomegranate seeds) and dhaniya (coriander) seeds, the tart ...
