The brave and courageous Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani for the first time in the history of Pakistan army took part in an air operation against militants.

Taliban militants have stepped up bomb attacks since the military launched an offensive in the former tourist valley of Swat and neighboring districts northwest of the capital in April. The UN plans to issue on Friday another Flash Appeal for more funds to care for the displaced people. At a news briefing in New York, spokesperson Marie Okabe gave no figure for the amount being sought, saying it will be based on the needs of the UN agencies engaged in the relief work.
