The celebrations of Eid ul Azha in Karachi begins with the setup of bakra mandi. This year at least two hundred VIP tents will be installed in the upcoming Super Highway cattle market on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha and an area stretched over 4000 square feet has been earmarked for this purpose.

This year, again, Karachi’s biggest mandi (market), in Sohrab Goth, has become the centre of attraction as an estimated half a million sacrificial calves, goats, camels, and sheep have been put on sale in the market. Center of attraction are some really beautiful and healthy bulls like named Toofan, Diamond etc. many farm owners has also displayed their animals in around 15 decorated tents. Social websites like facebook are flooding with comments and pictures about the cows, bulls and goats in cattle market making it easier for customers to search for animals.

In pursuit of bringing motor sport to Pakistan, Pakistan Racer Hunt 2009 talent hunt campaign has been launched. Trials for the massive nationwide talent hunt will be held in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. The aim is to bring motor sport to public attention, identify young talent and just give everyone a chance to become part of this sport and enjoy with their family and friends at an extremely affordable rate.
This will be an annual feature and 10 drivers will be selected every year for training and development from across Pakistan. The winner of each year’s Racer Hunt will be given an International Racing Contract by Racing Pakistan for the following year.

Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Babar Khan Ghauri during his review visit to the site of the ‘Port Grand Food Court’ under Napier Mole Bridge has announced Asia’s largest and most modern food street to be built at a cost of Rs1 billion and spread over nine acres. It would be inaugurated by the end of November this year in Karachi.

This news itself is troubling that whenever a Pakistani had to be released from Indian jails he couldn’t make it live. Government of Pakistan needs to be insistent & protest about this matter. Human rights activists should also raise their voice about the issue. How long this injustice would continue?

To mark Independence day celebrations this year on Social media Pakistanis unite to make it to the top of trending topics of the world’s famous Micro blogging site, Twitter. It was initiated by the GO GREEN Campaign and after the success of #PakCricket hash tag during the finals of T20 World Cup, won by Pakistan earlier this year. More than 7500 people turn their Display images painted GREEN with flags of Pakistan and show their love and unity towards the homeland. Farhan Masood and his volunteer team on Twitter helped people to turn their images green. It is surely an effort to portray a positive and non violent image of Pakistan globally.TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE is the message of this ongoing #Pakistan Go Green E rally via Face book and Twitter.

After a record breaking rain fall in Karachi and massive destruction the torrential rain hits hard Lahore, the heart of province Punjab. Heavy monsoon rains in Lahore left commuters stranded and streets flooded. 140 mm of rain has been recorded from around the city while the Met office predicts more rains in the coming days. Lahore has been experiencing heavy showers which have caused the low line areas to be submerged. The city is experiencing the worst traffic jams due to heavy downpour.

A milestone for research work in Pakistan is achieved proving the capabilities of our scientists. Dr A.Q. Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (Kibge) of Karachi University has been succeeded in producing five enzymes (Bio catalyst) of high industrial value on the import of which the country spends over $10 million every year. The institute was pioneer to plan commercialization of the enzymes in the country has got international patents for the enzyme-producing strains and is now ready to sell the processes to industry and provide them with technical support. The current global market of industrial enzymes is over $2 billion, and is expected to top $2.7bn by 2012.
