A loud explosion has been heard near the office of Rescue-15 here on Saturday.

Two policemen were killed after a young man carried out a suicide attack against Rescue 15, a police helpline unit, in the federal capital on Saturday. At least four other policemen were injured. The attack on the Rescue 15 in Sector G-8, 10 days after the one in Lahore last month, took place around 8.35pm, barely 24 hours after a bomb blast in a mosque in Dir, NWFP.

Waiting for food

The UN plans to issue on Friday another Flash Appeal for more funds to care for the displaced people. At a news briefing in New York, spokesperson Marie Okabe gave no figure for the amount being sought, saying it will be based on the needs of the UN agencies engaged in the relief work. Soon after the Pakistani military launched operations to flush out Taliban militants, the UN called for $150 million to meet humanitarian needs of the tens of thousands of fleeing civilians.

1.3 Million Internally Displaced Persons from Malakand Division alone. Please donate generously in this time of crisis. These folks fled their homes to allow army to conduct an operation for the elimination of militants from the area. This the country’s Largest internal displacement ever and it is hard to accommodate millions of people in tents when there is a danger of Taliban to be disguised among them.

Displaced Family with few possesssions

Authorities in Pakistan say they are mobilizing to receive as many as half a million people newly displaced by fighting in and around the Swat Valley.The army said its “full-scale” assault had killed more than 170 militants in 24 hours, with the loss of 10 troops.  With Pakistani jets and helicopters pounding the Swat Valley and neighboring districts, the UN says the area threatens to become the scene of one of the world’s biggest displacement crises.
