An army transport helicopter crashed in the tribal region of Orakzai and Up to 26 Pakistani security personnel are feared dead as reported by BBC. The cause of the crash is unclear; the most likely explanation was a technical failure.
The crash comes as a suspected US drone strike in South Waziristan killed at least 10 militants. The MI-17 helicopter had been flying back to Peshawar from the Afghan border region when the pilot put out a Mayday alert. The helicopter then came down “in a hostile area” where it was ...

Public opinion in Pakistan has turned sharply against the Taliban and other Islamist militants but Pakistanis still do not trust the United States and President Barack Obama, according to the results of a poll.
The turn in public mood is a boost to the military in its offensive against the insurgency – a campaign supported by the Obama administration, which believes security in Pakistan is vital to defeating the Taliban in neighboring Afghanistan.
The survey showed that 81 percent of Pakistanis believe the activities of the Taliban and other Muslim extremists were ...

After 9/11 and since last few years Pakistan had been on a roller coaster ride of crisis after crisis. We are paying the price of being the ally of US against war on terrorism although being a victim of the same. The terms Al Qaeda, Taliban, militants are now a nightmare for the world but why they all are hiding only in Pakistan? Osama is always searched in Pakistan; Afghan war can’t be conducted without our help than why only we are the sufferers, while we are the victims also?

The Pakistani military through its own channels has shared evidence with the U.S. military about Indian support for terrorism in Pakistan’s tribal belt and Swat.
The evidence was embarrassing for the Americans because they have been defending Indian presence in Afghanistan and have also been defending the opening up of Indian consulates in areas close to the Pakistani border.
More embarrassing for the Americans is that besides some ...

I ended last Sunday’s article, “Who killed Benazir?” with the promise that, “Perhaps I’ll continue with this next week because there’s so much to tell, unless something happens – which is well within the realm of possibility – that demands more attention.” Well something did happen, to wit President Obama’s seminal speech in Cairo to what is euphemistically called ‘the Muslim World’. It demands attention, but also requires consideration, not a knee-jerk article written in a couple of days just to show that I recognize the importance ...

The top American diplomat for Pakistan, Richard C. Holbrooke, said that he would give a boost to efforts to trace the sources of financing for the Taliban insurgency, with special scrutiny of private donations reported by New York Times.
Mr. Holbrooke said that private donors, including some from Persian Gulf countries, were increasingly believed to be a far more important source of money for the Taliban than even the opium trade, which the United Nations estimates to be about $300 million a year. An American official responsible for Afghanistan said Friday ...
