It has been a tough time for the brand of Lays chips. They had struck another ad campaign emphasizing that they are certified from various Pakistani and international authorities. Here are some of the certificates for your view and clarification.
I have heard something different. It seems to be true that they do bake Potato Chips (may be in Pakistan) in somewhat Halal way, but the salts or taste enhancers used in those chips got some component made by the animal meat (some thing similar to E631).
Now this could be from Fish Meat or Pig Meat, it is not confirmed. In addition I’ve also heard that Lays company purchase food salt Ajeeno Moto which is also made by animal meat and somebody told me that Ajeeno Moto is banned in some Islamic countries.
So the problem is not with Potato Chip baked by Lays. It could be with the salt and taste enhancers used in those Chips.
I had posted 4 articles on the topic you can go through all on Pakfactor and than decide for your self.

After did some dig job about Lay’s dispute and found some articles & facts about Lay’s, Pepsi Co., Aginomoto Co. Thailand & The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand.
From the contents, I become sure that Lay’s Chips are 100% “HARAAM”.
eeescape@hotmail.com is my id so, e-mail me, I want to share these facts with you.
And especially you Hina! whose saying the media campaign of Lay’s through Junaid Jamshed is quite effective.

Go through all the articles about Lays on Pak factor. The Companies view is there for the public to decide to believe the rumors or not.
The link carries Ummat story who is responsible for exaggerating the issue. I had posted 4 articles to urge Pakistanis to at least think and decide them selves. Don’t blow your head with just spreading rumors.
