This year, again, Karachi’s biggest mandi (market), in Sohrab Goth, has become the centre of attraction as an estimated half a million sacrificial calves, goats, camels, and sheep have been put on sale in the market. Center of attraction are some really beautiful and healthy bulls like named Toofan, Diamond etc. many farm owners has also displayed their animals in around 15 decorated tents. Social websites like facebook are flooding with comments and pictures about the cows, bulls and goats in cattle market making it easier for customers to search for animals.

At least two hundred VIP tents will also be installed in the upcoming Super Highway cattle market on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha and an area stretched over 4000 square feet has been earmarked for this purpose.

The prices of these animals waver according to the nature of the market and due to recession also but generally they are costly. Even the day-and-night factor is irrelevant now as crowds of people throng the cattle-and-goat stadium as late as two o’clock in the morning. That was the time this correspondent managed to visit the Goth thrice.

And yet, like the last year, this year too there were proper arrangements for lights, tents and even the animals’ health. Vets and even a butcher were spotted sitting ready with their “first-aid kits” to take care of any sick animal.

Cattle market contractors said that some handsome, healthy and high pedigree animals collected from all across the country and lavishly decorated were usually kept here for the VIP buyers, which besides the purchasers remain on focus of the media also, as large number of women and children keep visiting these VIP tents.

The Administration also said that foolproof arrangements were being made for ensuring the law and order by posting sufficient number of policemen at the Asia’s largest cattle market that grows up here every year on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.
