The mystery of Pakistan Taliban Commander Baitullah Mehsud’s death is still unresolved. The reports are getting confused day in and day out. Pakistani agencies are ‘claiming’ that ‘he is dead’ while international media is not clear in its proclamation. Commander Hakimullah Mehsud had declared reports of the Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud’s, death three days ago in U.S Drone attack on a house in South Waziristan were “ridiculous”.

“The news regarding our respected chief is propaganda by our enemies. We know what our enemies want to achieve – it’s the joint policy of the [Pakistani intelligence service] ISI and FBI – they want our chief to come out in the open so they can achieve their target.”

He also added that Baitullah will soon release a video tape as a proof and he had decided to adopt the tactics of Osama bin Laden and stay silent as reported by BBC.

While On Friday, another of Baitullah Mehsud’s aides told the Associated Press by telephone that his leader had been killed along with his second wife in the attack. Dawn reports that,

‘He was clearly visible with his wife,’ a senior security official, who saw the video footage, said. ‘And the missile hit the target as it was. His torso remained, while half of the body was blown up.’

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, described Baitullah Mehsud as “a murderous thug”, saying the Pakistani people would be safer if he was dead.

“The Pakistan government has not been able to give 100 percent confirmation yet of whether Baitullah Mehsud is indeed dead,” Farahnaz Ispahani, adviser to Pakistan’s president, told CNN.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman only said that the Department of Defense is “aware of the reports.” But he said Mehsud’s death would be significant.

Reuters report that,

An intelligence officer in South Waziristan told Reuters that Mehsud’s funeral had already taken place, ”He was killed with his wife and he was buried in Nargosey,” the officer said, referring to a tiny settlement about 1 km (half a mile), from the site of the attack.

He seems to be a genie like Osama Bin Laden. May be the DNA analysis could unveil some facts about the happenings.
